Visit to the Jamaica Market, Flower and Cacao Workshop
We started the day outside the Centro Medico metro station, where we met up with our adventure companions for the day. There was Caro, a local tourist, who was a great artist, Flor taking photos, and Cande, the beautiful florist. There were also two guides, Luis and Paco, who were incredibly knowledgeable about the history of markets in Mexico City. And, of course, the 20 precious souls who bravely decided to sign up for the experience.
When I first arrived at the station (I was late) I said, oh, it's going to be very easy to find a group of white Mexicans outside the subway.
Yes it was.
Jamaica, a feast of everything: colors, scents, a paradise of flowers. We walked through it in silence, observing the blossoms, or as I like to call them, "God's smiles."
We ate some esquite, very delicious.
We were already walking back to Maria Cacao and there were thousands and thousands of flowers waiting for us that we had placed the day before so that our guests of honor wouldn't have to carry so many flowers in Jamaica.
We put together a selection of the best bread of the dead in Mexico City, curated by Caro, who is the ultimate connoisseur of all things foodie.
Also, talking a little about the meaning of life and death, and what this date represents in Mexico.
They were all a little agitated, so I saw this as the perfect opportunity for everyone to have some cacao. We breathed a little, inhale, exhale, you know, taking the cacao to the heart and putting an intention into the floral arrangement you were about to create.
And so... all more confident, calm, and with bellies full of bread of the dead and cacao, they began to make their arrangements, each one different from the next. The workshops are amazing because you can see the creation manifesting in each person. It's beautiful.
We closed, and the best part of all was saying goodbye to each of our guests of honor, seeing them happy with their flowers, which would accompany them throughout the week.
In short, this Day of the Dead, at Maria Cacao we celebrate it by celebrating Life.
And how beautiful it is.
Greetings, kisses and blessings to all who read me,
